About the course

This RACGP approved course is an introductory guide for medical practitioners on prescribing cannabinoid-based medicines. It covers approved clinical indications in Australia such as chronic pain, palliative care, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, and CINV, based on TGA guidance documents. The course also teaches best practices for patient management, prescribing processes, current legislation, and adhering to TGA requirements to ensure high standards of patient care. Upon completion, you will receive a statement of attendance which you can use to become an authorised prescriber.

Explain the anatomy, physiology and pathophysiology of the endocannabinoid system of the human body

Evaluate the clinical indications, contraindications, and side effects of cannabinoid-based medicines in General Practice

Differentiate appropriate cannabinoid-based treatment approaches, dosing strategies and titration protocols

Design appropriate patient management plan aligned with the current evidence-based research and the TGA legislation

Explain the TGA patient access pathways, and the process for prescribing the medicinal cannabis

About the Educator

Dr. Teresa Towpik has been a General Practitioner in Australia since 1993 and an advocate of medicinal cannabis since the law was amended and cannabis was legalized for medicinal use. In 2016 she founded Medihuanna with the goal to educate medical practitioners to safely treat patients with medicinal cannabis. Since then, she has been studying the therapeutic properties of cannabis, how it works, and the potential applications in General Practice, especially in the management of chronic debilitating pain.
