About the webinar

Behavioural and Psychological Symptoms of Dementia (BPSD), including agitation, aggression, anxiety, psychosis and sleep disturbance, can significantly impact people living with dementia and their caregivers.

Presented by geriatrician Dr Sean Hui, this webinar explores a practical, evidence-based approach to assessing and managing BPSD. Participants will review reversible contributors, non-pharmacological and conventional treatments, and the emerging evidence for cannabinoid-based medicines, with a focus on patient selection, safety, monitoring and person-centred care.

Learning Outcomes

Recognise common behavioural and psychological symptoms associated with dementia and their impact on patients and caregivers.

Apply a structured clinical assessment to identify reversible and contributing causes of BPSD.

Compare the evidence, benefits and risks of conventional pharmacological and non-pharmacological management strategies.

Critically evaluate the current evidence for cannabinoid-based medicines in BPSD.

Develop an individualised management and monitoring plan incorporating shared decision-making and deprescribing principles.

About the speaker

Dr. Sean Hui is a trilingual geriatrician and perioperative physician fluent in English, Mandarin, and Cantonese. A Monash University valedictorian, he works across public and private, and holds leadership roles at Northern Health in Perioperative clinic and Virtual Residential In-Reach services. Dr. Hui is a Teaching Specialist at the University of Melbourne and maintains a strong clinical interest in perioperative medicine, dementia care, VAD, and the evidence-based use of medicinal cannabis for geriatric symptoms.
